God Forbid formed and released their first disc in 1998, then spent the following several years trying to make it big. Though they would have to wait six years for a breakthrough release, their first great album came a mere three years later. 2001's "Determination", which was God Forbid's first release on Century Media records, should have been this New Jersey-based quintet's breakthrough because every ingredient is here for a superb thrash/metalcore record: catchy songs, great riffs, walloping drums, ...

For their first LP, God Forbid seems to hold back nothing and give out everything powerful they feel. If you're a fan of true thrash-metal or metalcore, this is for you. Granted, I've owned this cd for years and only just recently got really into it. But, even when I bought it and listened to it not so frequently, I knew something good was brewin'.

This cd in my opinion is their most natural sounding and best. Im not saying I dont like the direction their heading in with constition of treason, but their starting to sound like any other metalcore band. they do still have a unique sound to them, but i really liked the style they used in determination. i also really enjoy the drum work. the song compilation is awesome, and the riffs are totally different. very easy to distinguish each song from one another, except the first two beginning tracks. all in ...

Shadows fall and God forbid seem to be the only 2 american bands that actually can play.
nu metal is pretty much gone, leaving us with cheesy emo-hardcore crap bands.

If you were to look at the bands that are bringing back the original sound of metal (the way it should be), God Forbid would have to be one of the best. Unfortunately, forefathers of the genre like Slayer won't be around forever. The next generation needs bands to carry the torch, bands that are heavy in a creative fashion, instead of cookie cutter "metalcore" garbage. God Forbid is leading this charge.
