Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Mandrake Is Pure Power Metal
As Soon as the first notes start, you know this album is phenomenal. This is probably Edguy's finest work, or at least tied with Vain Glory, and the Savage Poetry(2000). The title track is a midpaced seven minute song that places you back to the day when music really meant something. I know this is Power Metal, but it almost has a prog style, and definately has the hair thing going on as well. This is music grandeur, and while most dismiss Edguy as a cheesy satire band from Germany, I think ...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Another great Edguy album!
Edguy is definitely one of my favorite bands, if not my favorite. Rocket Ride was actually the first of their albums I bought, but I wound up acquire pretty much everything they've published. (I'm only missing their first 2 EP's and the original version of Savage Poetry)

For anyone unfamiliar with Edguy, they are similar in some ways to Iron Maiden. They favor slightly more distorted guitars, a more polished production style, and often add synth orchestras or organ to their songs. ...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Edguy's "Mandrake"
Edguy's "Mandrake" is often considered to be their magnum opus despite that being a matter of individual taste, but then I can see why people would say this. Overall, it's Edguy's last album to feature "true" neo-classical elements, the album is also very-well varied exploring different power metal styles from speed, to anthemic melodies, aggression, and atmospheric choir-sounds. The album opens up with the 7 minute epic "Tears Of The Mandrake" which has a very catchy chorus, rather different from typical ...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Marvellous album with creepy cover art...
If you are new to Edguy this album is the perfect place to start. Mandrake showcases all of Edguy's musical range perfectly from ballads to rockers to epic songs, it's all here. I believe this is Edguy's 4th release but i might be mistaken it could be their fifth. Anyway the music Edguy play is purely a mixture of the good parts of power metal and heavy metal. Their music is semi-operatic in the way that it involves quite a lot of theatrics and besides Tobias Sammet did write The Metal Opera (by Avantasia)!! ...
