Okay, never was I a Meshuggah fan. Never liked anything like it. Being a guitar player, I read many things regarding their style. So I decided to check it out. When I say the cover of obzen, I must say - there is something hypnotic about that cover. So I got it and fell in love with the mind-melting riffs that they are so known for. After a while you can start to make out the words. I really appreciated obzen, but Catch 33 has struck a chord with me. I cannot get the music out of my head. My absolute ...

I won't be so bold as to say this is the greatest album of all time, since I haven't heard every album ever produced, but it's definitely the best album I've ever heard. For comparison's sake, I would place this work slightly above John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme", Miles Davis's "Kind of Blue", The D.O.C.'s "No One Can Do It Better", J-Live's "All of the Above", Metallica's "Master of Puppets", The Mars Volta's "De-Loused in the Comatorium", and Opeth's "Ghost Reveries".

As it has been so thoroughly stated by so many other reviewers, this album is not about individual and awesome tracks. This album IS truly like one long and complex mind crushing master piece of a song. If you like the whole jazz-deathmetal breed, you will love this album. The song In Death - Is Death is one of the greatest songs ever composed by any group of people. If you are checking out Meshuggah for the first time though, please start off with "Nothing" or "ObZen".
People who are giving ...

Let's get one thing straight, this album requires hard work and patience. Although there are individual tracks listed on the cd, make no mistake, this was intended to be listended to as one complete piece of music. The main riff, which features throughout and in various forms, (sometimes disguised) has micro detailed changes and nuances, hence the reward of repeated listens. The ambient sections are amazing, they sound huge - alien and bleak, yet strangely moving, this is perhaps most apparent on album closer ...

Before you light the torch and throw it at me, let me preface this review by saying that I love Meshuggah. In my top five favorite bands of all time. Records like Chaosphere and Nothing redefined the meaning of crushing rhythmic metal.
Rewind back to 2005. Rabidly expecting a new crushing Meshuggah record, I finally found a copy in Los Angeles and paid twenty bucks for it (yes I wanted it that bad).
Jump in the car, put on the first track.....ok......kind of slow.....only a few notes.....fast ...
