Ok, ok, ok... let's face a few things. Number one: Aborted is HIGHLY influenced by Carcass. That is no secret. They practically followed the Carcass formula step by putrid step. Does this mean they suck? I don't think so. In fact, being such a hugh fan of Carcass I find it nice to have their tamer Belgian cousins churning out vomit-inducing yet catchy as hell goregrind while I patiently wait for more than the recent two reunion tours but actually to have a new Carcass album in my hands. Aborted is one of the greatest bands I have heard over the past couple of months. This CD is definite proof. It blends in the most brutal elements of death metal and adds a touch of grindcore and hardcore to it. The dual vocal assault will knock you off your feet.

After 2003's fantastically brutal "Goremageddon" album, I was very much anticipating Aborted's next release. Over the years, these Belgium death metal fanatics have been exponentially improving both their skills and their sound, so I knew "The Archaic Abottoir" was going to be something special. Aborted may as well be named Carcass II. I've seen older fans express callous opinions regarding this record on account of the newly-injected groove, But I can't help think that the elusive melody is the only think dangling this generic grind-fest over a one-star review. The problem is that Aborted's songs somehow go everywhere and nowhere at the same time. There are more incohesive and noodly riffs on this album than there are Kaballah/"daddy molested me" lyrics on a Tool album. That last sentence was pointless ...

First time listeners of Aborted's new album should think it's a very brutal and uncompromising affair. But, as has happened many times in the past when a band has added a little melody and groove to their music, some longtime fans are screaming "sell out!"
