This is not their first, however it's the one that gained them some serious attention in Europe. From here on... Behemoth just takes over the death metal world! All Hail!

Behomth attempted to pick up the ball dropped by Mayhem, but they just can't shock people any more. Whereas early Mayhem made you want to pick up the guitar and start playing, this is pretty generic black metal. I got this because I heard they were one of the only Thelemic bands. None of the songs stand out and even when ripped on a hard drive the vocals are still unintelligable. After hearing the second song on this album "LAM" on a sampler of the cult German Ablaze magazine years ago, I felt I needed to have this album. Behemoth is one of those bands that combine brutal agression with great melodies, and "Satanica" is their first great effort of combining death metal with a pinch of black metal (actually, their previous album "Pandemonic Incantations" marked their first steps away from being a pure black metal band, but that album was just good, not a must-have).
