Editorial Review:Album Description:The raunchy bastards of the crippled folk-metal scene return with a twist. This concept album, their 4th(translates as "From the Depths of the Earth") was recorded at Sonic Pump Studios with Nino Laurenne (Ensiferum, Kiuas, Thunderstone) in Oct. 2006. Produced by Trollhorn and Tundra, this album delivers a rather unique mixture of black metal, folk music, punk and gods-know-what, ranging from epic classical symphonies into sheer merengue-inspired brutality with a hint or three of pure madness and creative songwriting. The 55 minute journey is accompanied by a lengthy booklet filled with Skrymer's original artwork and Katla's lyrics. You won't need to contact your local shaman in order to acquire mushrooms for taking this trip.

Well, this is one very interesting music album, I must say. I'm a fan of folk metal bands, such as Korpiklaani, and I saw Finntroll under 'recommended for you'. I was unsure of them at first, but little did I know...
I was browsing around my local music store one day when I noticed Ur Jordens Djup listed in the metal albums. I decided I would give them a try, so I bought it and listened to it when I returned home. When I first popped in the CD, I didn't really know what to expect. Next ...

The first time I heard this, I went, "Oh no, not another Nattfodd." It's not that I don't like Nattfodd, but it left me a little flat compared to Jaktens Tid. Ur Jordens Djup seemed like a loud blur of sound, with no distinctive features. The keyboards, in particular, seemed buried in the mix as well as the guitars. There just wasn't enough separation to make each part stick out.
Then I listened to it a second time, and this had never happened with another album before, but it just clicked. ...

With this most recent Album, I get the feeling Finntroll is trying to be taken more seriously. Its a very good album but it is also pretty different from their previous releases. They got a new singer for this album and have kind of a more traditional black metal sound, hints of early Dimmu Borgir. Less Polka more darkness.
So for those of you into dark folky metal, you'll definitely enjoy this but for those of you who liked Finntroll because they were energetic and for lack of a better word, ...

Now i'm a guy who loves black metal, black folk metal, viking metal, melodic death and black and i love this cd. Sure its not like the old polka-ish finntroll but its black metal if not its pretty damn close. I myself am a fan of old finntroll and i wanna see them live when they come to California. Even though its not the finntroll i fell in love with they changed in a way that wasn't bad but finntroll changing isn't good either but regardless this is a good album and i reccomend this album to people who like/love ...
