Editorial Review:

Album Description:
2008 album from the German Black Metal outfit. Formed in 1994, Dark Fortress have established themselves in the top ranks of the Black Metal genre with intense live shows and fascinating, pitch black full-length masterpieces that meet the standard created mostly in northern Europe's prolific scenes with ease. Things were just picking up speed with the recording of this album when the band had to announce the departure of vocalist Azathoth due to personal reasons in May 2007. Three months later the band decided to go with an old acquaintance of theirs Morean, a freelance composer and guitarist of the progressive Death/Thrashers Noneuclid. The multi-talented Morean was also responsible for the lyrical concept of Eidolon. The concept describes a magic mirror ritual as while a person is in a trance, the surface of the mirror is used as a gate to enter a new dimension. Three songs each form the album's three chapters. Nine tracks. Century Media.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent
This is a great album from a very talented and awesome metal band. This is german Black Metal at it's best. The vocals are great, the guitars are killer, the drums and blast-beats are top notch and the song structure/delivery is perfect. This is awesome music.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Dark Fortress
Love this album, I think this band is pushed off to the side a little bit........not in my eyes tho! very talented, very serious and would be exciting to see live!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Not quite what I expected
Unfortunately bland songwriting mars this well-produced effort. Most of the songs flow one into the next without any real standouts. The listener keeps waiting for a melody or structure to grab and pull them into the experience emotionally, but it rarely comes. This is a bit frustrating as the promise of amazing things is evident, but not delivered on this recording. Best track would have to be Baphomet. It has attention-grabbing riff work and melodic structure, particularly in the later half. ...

Dark Fortress - Eidolon
Seems to be a theme as of late, establish bands switching up vocalists, that is. Dark Fortress falls into this category and, in this case, there is nothing wrong with that. Though former front man Azathoth was quite capable, the addition of Morean has brought Dark Fortress firmly to the for-front of the German Black Metal scene. And for good reason.

No longer lyrically obsessed with suicide and self mutilation (See 2nd and 3rd albums "Profane Genocidal Creation" ...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Superior Modern Black MeTal
You are wondering how new vocalist, Morgean, compares to the old, Azathoth? The answer: favourably! Casual listeners will not be able to tell the difference, but long-time fans will note that Morgean is a bit more restrained, with not as many creepy gurlgling cackles or shrieks. This is in NO way "Necro"-style BM; the production is rich and fantastic(almost the exact same sound as their previous, brilliant "Seance")...there are quite a few excellent riffs as well as thrash parts; the keyboards weave in-and ...
