Editorial Review:

Album Description:
The mantra, "Stagnation is Death!", could not ring truer for Austria's premier extreme metal act. On their eighth studio album, Belphegor have drawn lyrical and emotional inspiration from the mystical celebration of Walpurgisnacht. This celebration of springtime and fertility continues to fascinate with its stories of hedonistic midnight gatherings where unspeakable acts of evil and lust took place. The band pulled both lyrical content and inspiration from these fantastical and otherworldly tales which lent themselves perfectly to Belphegor's peverse and extreme attack. With Walpurgis Rites - Hexenwahn, the new echelon of blackened death metal, they take their creativity and songwriting prowess to infernal new depths. Catch them on tour this fall as part of the first-ever Pagan-themed Heathen Nation 2009 alongside Eluveitie, Alestorm & Vreid!

Customer Reviews

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - I expected more also...
After their last record, Bondage Goat Zombie, I certified myself as a true fan of this band, but this is a downgrade from that release, and the one before that as well. This album doesn't suck but it seems rushed. The songwriting isn't quite as solid as before, but I will not give up on this band...they kick ass. I can at least say this for them; they are more brutal than ever with this record. Very fast, lot's of blast beats, good production.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Expected more....
Let me start off by saying that I love Belphegor. I was really excited to get this cd..... and was let down. They really don't captivate the listener as much as their other albums(Lucifer Incestus, Goatreich-Fleshcult, Bondage Goat Zombie). The music isn't bad, but the songs on Hexenwahn seem a little redundant. There are really no songs on this album that jump out at you. The riffs and song structures are nothing new and nothing that great. I would recommend their other albums. Hopefully the next ...

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Excellent, but could have been bit better
There seems to be some glitch w/the reviews here, as the reviews before mine are for Bondage Goat Zombie. Anyway the band just released that album a little over a yr ago and now they are back w/another full length. Walpurgis Rites: Hexenwahn see the band continuing the trend of blending death/black metal w/the same crisp production as the last 2 cd's. The cd blasts out the starting gates w/the title track and it's an amazingly brutal track. Next up is the I am Sin song which clocks in over 7min. ...

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Too Extreme for me!
This is the only and first cd i have by Belphegor. I'm glad it was the only one I got. The sound and production on this is great. At first they reminded me of Dimmu Borgir but after a couple of listens and see the dvd enclosed this band is just sick. I know it's black metal with a cross of death metal but this is just too perverse and sickening too me and I own and heard alot of this type of black and death metal. My opinion if you want good black metal get Dimmu Borgir. I've been listening to metal for ...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Another awesome album.
This album pretty picks up where "Goastreich Fleishcult" and "Pestapocalypse" left off, although with some ocassional new ideas here and there. Blazing speed, crushing riffs, and Helmuth's unholy sounding vocals are still prominent on this release. If you like Belphegor's previous offerings, then you won't be dissappointed.
