Editorial Review:

Album Description:
2009 album from the Swiss band. Eluveitie released their break through album Slania in February 2008 and did three European and two US tours in less than one year. Euphoric reactions, sold out shows everywhere and newly gained respect from all over the world were their well-deserved earnings. Mainman Chrigel Glanzmann took some short time off to write a new album that has already been planned for quite some time. This time the band would not sound like a sonic battlefield, this time there was a deep desire for just ancient melodies and pure acoustic Folk music: no electric guitars or any effects... just pure, honest and authentic folklore! If you know their previous efforts, its needless to say that the band succeeded in every aspect. Evocation I: The Arcane Dominion already is a gem in the Folk genre and will appeal to all fans of the band as well as to a lot of music interested people of all genres. Nuclear Blast.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Neither metal nor pure folk, but pretty cool
For fans of Eluveitie's previous work, this isn't anything like that, as there's not really any black metal, or even metal influence. Yet, it's not a real folk album, either - I have plenty of straight-ahead Celtic (and even some Scandinavian) folk CDs, and this doesn't sound like that. It IS folk-influenced - there's the obvious presence of the folky acoustic instruments, and Irish/Celtic melodies pop up throughout. The singing doesn't sound Celtic to me - it reminds me of folk-pop bands from ...

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - NOT AGAIN!
I cant tell you how many times this happens to me. I get into a band and they start off stong and then veer into the oncoming traffic and muck everythin up. well that happenes with this band on this album. This sounds more like they are trying to be like evanescence or somefin. Didnt stay in my player for more than 2 rounds. bottom of the box, back of the closet type of music here. F+ *click*

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - If you just need to bang your head...
...then yeah, this is probably not the Eluveitie release for you. But I saw them last night live, and the new songs worked great up alongside Inis Mona and Uis Elveti. I actually had to listen to this release a couple times before I was feelin' it, and now I can't get enough, and it's been within grabbing distance of my car stereo for months. Anna's singing is beautiful on it, and I especially like her and Meri's whispered vocals on a lot of the tracks. Many of these I first thought were instrumental ...

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Very Disappointing
Eluveitie is one of my favorite bands, but this album was a huge misstep. There are really only 2 decent tracks, and like the other reviewers said, it's more pop than metal. The band was trying to kind of do a 'back to roots' acoustic folk album but it ended up being long, boring and overproduced.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Meh
It's an OK release. There wasn't anything that stood out. I've heard this all before.
It isn't bad, but overall, it is pretty generic.
